The Learning Resources Centers (LRCs) at Hinds Community College serve faculty, staff, and students by requesting materials not available at Hinds from other institutions. Availability of items depends on the policies of loaning institutions. Only faculty, staff, and currently enrolled students at Hinds Community College can submit interlibrary loan requests. When submitting interlibrary loan requests via the WorldCat link at the bottom of the Resources page, users need to include valid email addresses and college ID (patron ID).

When possible, Learning Resources requests materials from institutions with policies indicating that their loans are free of charge. Learning Resources does not charge Hinds faculty, staff, and students for its services. The loan period is determined by loaning institutions, which may place such restrictions as library use only and no renewals.

Books are commonly loaned. Photocopies of periodical articles are sent, which means that they do not have to be returned. There is a limit on the number of articles published by individual periodicals that can be requested. Audiovisual materials are not commonly loaned. Requests for new books, reference books, software, and electronic books will likely be unfulfilled. Not all requests can be filled. Sometimes multiple attempts are required. Users will be notified if requests cannot be filled.

Requested materials usually arrive at McLendon Library some one to two weeks after being requested; however, it may take longer. Users who are not employed or take classes at the Raymond campus may have to wait an additional two to three business days for materials to arrive at their LRC by campus mail.

Learning Resources prefers to notify users by email. Users will receive email messages when requested materials arrive at McLendon Library. Users who are not based at the Raymond campus may be contacted in a different manner by one of the local campus librarians. Emails will include information regarding when materials are due back at McLendon Library, which may be an earlier date than what is listed in some loan sleeves.

Users are required to sign Interlibrary Loan Agreement Forms indicating when materials are due. In order to maintain good relationships with lending libraries, Learning Resources will not hesitate to charge users for overdue interlibrary loan materials.

Before submitting requests, please make sure that Learning Resources does not own or have access to the requested material via MAGNOLIA, MELO, NetLibrary, and other individually subscribed databases. Interlibrary loan requests will not be submitted for material already owned by the college or accessible to faculty, staff, and students of Hinds Community College via NetLibrary and the databases.

Users wishing to renew their loans need to inform Learning Resources. We will try to extend the due date. Since the materials belong to other institutions, their use is subject to their policies. If you need assistance with your interlibrary loan requests, please email James Kennedy at JBKennedy@hindscc.edu or contact Learning Resources at 601.857.3255.
