The Learning Resources program is important to the achievement of the educational goals of the students and faculty at Hinds Community College. The program also provides its larger college community with learning resources, support services, and facilities designed to meet their informational needs.

The College ensures that all students and faculty members have access to materials needed to support the purpose and programs of the College. The College employs a competent staff available to assist the Learning Resources Centers (LRC) patrons. The LRC contains collections of print and non-print materials and the equipment needed to use the materials in a well-organized manner. The LRC hours of service are designed to meet the needs of the patrons. Hours of service are changed as needed with the approval of the Vice-President. Materials are acquired and services are established with the needs of the patrons in mind. The LRC staff and the college administration work together to ensure that the Learning Resources program is meeting the needs of the patrons as well as meeting the stated purpose and goals of the College. Surveys and questionnaires are conducted on a regular basis to help determine the need for changes. Recommendations and comments from all patrons are also considered when changes are proposed.

Learning Resources strives to meet the standards as set forth in the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Criteria. Guidelines from the American Library Association are used when making decisions for changes and securing funding. Adherence is given to college and state standards.

The College is a member of the Southern Association of College and School. Memberships are held in the Mississippi Library Association, Southeastern Library Association, and the American Library Association. The library supports the Library Bill of Rights as adopted by the American Library Association.

The staff believes that all library patrons have the freedom to read from a spectrum of significant publications in achieving their educational goals, so long as these materials are not offensive to generally accepted good taste. The staff ensures that all sides of a controversial or partisan issue are represented as fairly as financial resources and college goals permit.
